Take charge of DNS on your Android phone or tablet with DNS Changer by Protectstar. Switch the DNS server used on Wi-Fi or mobile data, enter a custom address, or select a provider with advertising, security or family filters. Set up your choice without rooting your device or changing your router.
Find a setup that suits you with PRO
Different networks can give the same DNS server very different response times. PRO gives you practical tools to compare and manage your options:
• DNS speed test: measure server response times on the connection you are using.
• Saved profiles: keep DNS settings for home, work, travel or gaming ready to switch.
• Per-app control: select the apps that should use DNS Changer.
• Optional DNS logs and monitoring: review the domain requests shown in the app.
• WHOIS with a map view: look up additional information about domains.
These advanced tools require PRO. The speed test checks DNS response time; it does not measure or increase your internet download speed.
Choose a DNS server for your network
DNS turns a website or service name into an address your device can use. A slow resolver can delay the start of a connection. Trying another DNS server may shorten that wait when DNS is the cause. Available choices include Cloudflare, Google Public DNS, AdGuard DNS, Quad9 and CleanBrowsing. You can also add custom IPv4 and IPv6 DNS addresses.
Connect or disconnect in a tap and check the current status. Use the app on Wi-Fi and mobile networks, including 4G and 5G. With PRO, compare responses on the networks you actually use and save separate profiles instead of repeatedly entering the same settings.
Choose the filters you need
A DNS provider with ad filtering can block requests to many advertising and tracking domains. Security-focused services can restrict access to known phishing and malicious domains. Family filtering can limit adult content and other categories that a provider considers unsuitable for children.
Filter coverage depends on the service you choose. DNS ad blocking cannot remove every ad, and a family filter is an extra layer alongside parental controls. Provider filtering and the app's PRO tools are separate features: choose a provider for its filters, and use PRO for comparison, profiles and additional control.
Make settings work for your apps
Keep a profile for your usual home connection and another for mobile data. If an app needs a different setup, PRO lets you choose whether it uses DNS Changer. Optional request logs and domain information can help you understand the DNS activity displayed by the tool without keeping logging enabled all the time.
DNS can affect name resolution for browsing, app services and game sign-ins. Changing it does not increase your connection's bandwidth or guarantee lower in-game ping. There is no fastest DNS server for every situation: location, network and testing time all matter.
Get connected in a few steps
Pick a provider or enter your own DNS addresses. Read the connection notices, approve Android's VPN request and connect. Then try the sites and apps you use regularly. If a filter prevents a service from opening, choose another provider or disconnect DNS Changer to return to your usual configuration.
Understand the local VPN connection
DNS Changer uses Android VpnService to manage DNS through a local interface. It does not send your traffic through remote VPN servers or change your public IP address. Another VPN app generally cannot run at the same time. The selected DNS provider handles the requests sent to it under its own privacy policy.
Pick your DNS, compare the response and keep useful settings within reach.
