Om denne lydbog
This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
A prosperous London merchant takes his family north for the summer to a quiet house on the Aberdeenshire coast. Delighted with Scotland, he commissions a full Highland outfit from a costumier, kilt, sporran, dirk and all, and parades about the village in it, magnificently pleased with himself and quietly ridiculous to everyone else.
An old fisherman warns him twice: about vanity, and about the patch of smooth sand below the house that swallows whatever walks on it. Then, returning home late one night, Mr Markam sees a figure standing on the shore ahead of him. It is wearing his clothes. It has his face.
First published in 1894, Crooken Sands is one of Bram Stoker’s strangest tales: a Scottish seaside comedy that curdles, by degrees, into a genuinely frightening story of a double, quicksand and a man meeting himself in the dark.
Listen to the complete, unabridged audiobook of this classic Victorian horror story by the author of Dracula.
