The university in Dongying was never meant to be a fortress. Now its gates, dormitories, kitchens, rooftops, and water supplies are what stand between a small group of survivors and a city filled with the dead.
Aaron is an American teacher trying to help keep everyone alive. Lucy keeps count of the days, the supplies, and the people who remain. Serena is learning what survival has changed in her, while the others carry their own losses, fears, and reasons to keep going.
They have spent months learning how to live with the outbreak. They know which sounds to avoid, how to ration what remains, and how quickly a small mistake can cost someone their life.
Then the weather changes.
The spring wind carries yellow dust across the Yellow River Delta. Ice melts. Bodies that disappeared beneath the canals begin to rise. The dead gather again, drawn by sounds no one fully understands. And as the survivors try to protect what they have built, new evidence points toward an oilfield project at Hekou, a place that may hold part of the answer to what happened.
The threat is no longer limited to the streets beyond the gates.
Inside the university, people are still people. They fall in love, feel jealous, argue, grieve, make mistakes, and reach for one another when the world becomes too much to bear alone. Intimacy can offer comfort, but it can also make already complicated relationships harder to navigate. No one has the luxury of pretending that the old rules, or the old versions of themselves, are still intact.
As the survivors are forced to leave the safety they have fought to preserve, they must decide what to trust, what to carry, and how far they are willing to go without knowing what waits ahead.
Set against the distinctive landscape and everyday realities of northern China, Yellow Wind continues The Delta Dead with a focus on practical survival, unsettling discoveries, human relationships, and the stubborn routines that keep people moving through another day.
For readers who enjoy zombie fiction with an immersive setting, slow-building mystery, graphic horror, and adult themes, this is a story about more than staying alive.
It is about what remains of us when almost everything else is gone.
Yellow Wind is Book Two of The Delta Dead. Reading Book One first is recommended for the full story.
