Canter Kellie is a travel writer, minimalist living advocate, and the founder of The Light Pack, a resource hub dedicated to helping travelers move through the world with less baggage and more freedom. Over the past 14 years, she has visited 47 countries across 6 continents—almost always with nothing more than a single carry-on bag.
Her journey into minimalist packing began during a three-month backpacking trip through Southeast Asia in 2012, when her checked luggage was lost on the first day. She spent the next two weeks traveling with a single change of clothes and a toiletry kit. To her surprise, she didn't miss her bag. She hasn't checked a bag since.
Canter's writing has appeared in *Outside Magazine*, *AFAR*, *The Traveler's Journal*, and *Minimalism Today*. She has been featured as a packing expert on the *Zero to Travel* podcast, the *Ultimate Minimalist* podcast, and the BBC travel series *The Carry-On Challenge*. Her previous book, *Lighter: A Guide to Minimalist Living on the Road*, received the 2021 Independent Publisher Book Award for travel writing.
When not on the road, Canter lives in Portland, Oregon, where she teaches packing workshops at local outdoor retailers and community centers. Her one-day "Pack With Me" seminars have helped over 2,000 travelers reduce their luggage by an average of 40 percent. She is currently at work on her third book, a guide to minimalism in daily life for parents of young children.
She believes that the best souvenir you can bring home from any trip is the realization that you needed less than you thought.
