Unlock the Foundations of Faith with One of Church History’s Master Expositors.

Genesis is the seedbed of all biblical doctrine. From the dawn of creation and the catastrophe of the Fall to the covenant journeys of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, every major theological truth finds its roots in this opening book. Yet unlocking its profound spiritual riches requires an experienced, reverent guide.

In Expositions of Holy Scripture: Genesis, renowned Scottish expositor Alexander Maclaren (1826–1910) opens the foundational narratives of the Bible with unmatched homiletical clarity, spiritual warmth, and doctrinal weight. Long regarded as one of the finest preachers the English-speaking world has ever produced, Maclaren bypasses dry academic speculation to uncover the living spiritual principles woven into the patriarchal history, equipping believers to see the Gospel foreshadowed on every page.

What You Will Discover Inside:

Creation and the Sovereign Hand of God: Illuminating insights into divine power, order, providence, and human stewardship.

The Anatomy of the Fall: A piercing examination of temptation, sin’s deceptive nature, and God’s immediate promise of redemption.

The Walk of Faith with the Patriarchs: Deep, practical expositions on Abraham’s obedience, Jacob’s transformation, and Joseph’s unyielding trust in God’s sovereignty through suffering.

Typological Foreshadowing of Christ: Clear connections demonstrating how the covenants, altars, and sacrifices of Genesis point directly to the cross.

Timeless Applications for Daily Discipleship: Fresh conviction on wrestling with doubt, persevering through family heartache, and walking faithfully in an ungodly world.

Alexander Maclaren (1826–1910) was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of a Baptist merchant and lay preacher; he trained for the ministry at Stepney College, London. After twelve years at Portland Chapel, Southampton, he became pastor of Union Chapel, Manchester, in 1858 and remained there for forty-five years, his verse-by-verse exposition drawing hearers from every denomination. In 1905 he presided over the first Baptist World Congress in London and became the first president of the Baptist World Alliance. He wrote almost no books in his lifetime, preferring the spoken sermon, but his printed expositions — collected after his death as Expositions of Holy Scripture — cover nearly the whole Bible and remain a standard of expository preaching.
