Ida Finnerty is a certified financial planner and money management educator who has spent the past fifteen years helping couples build financial systems that strengthen their relationships rather than strain them. She holds a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in financial planning from Texas Tech University.
Finnerty began her career as a financial advisor at a large brokerage firm, where she noticed a recurring pattern: couples who came in with strong individual incomes often struggled to coordinate their finances effectively. They were successful professionals who knew how to manage their own money but lacked a framework for managing money as a team. This observation led her to specialize in dual-income household financial planning, a niche that was surprisingly underserved in the financial advice industry.
In 2016, she founded Finnerty Financial Planning, a boutique advisory firm that works exclusively with dual-income couples. Her firm's approach combines technical financial planning with communication strategies drawn from her additional training as a certified financial therapist. She has written for *Kiplinger's Personal Finance*, *The Wall Street Journal*, and *Forbes*, and has been quoted as a financial expert in *The New York Times*, *Money Magazine*, and *U.S. News & World Report*.
Finnerty lives in Portland, Oregon, with her wife and their two children. When she's not working with clients or writing, she volunteers with Financial Beginnings Oregon, a nonprofit that teaches financial literacy to high school students and adults. *Two Paychecks, One Plan* is her first book.
