I gulp. Well, now I do. “I’m sorry. I just…I just wanted a place to sleep.”

His face doesn’t quite soften, but for a moment, it’s not quite as hard. “Get up.” When I fail to obey him right away, he grabs my arm and pulls me up. My mouth turns dry as he drags me out of the closet, then toward the bathroom. The guy is easily a head taller than me and unquestionably much stronger.

“Do you want to get arrested?” he asks when we’re in front of a big bathtub. You could put a whole koi pond in there.

Is that a rhetorical question? “Uh, no.”

He pulls me against him, making me catch my breath. “Then I suggest you do what I say from now on.”

4.25 stars. This short story is female lead (Heather) POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, fast-paced, age gap, contemporary romantic comedy between Heather, the homeless female lead, and Noah, the male judge lead whose home she enters, thinking she’s returning his cat. I was amused at Heather’s initial obliviousness regarding Noah’s intentions. I enjoyed Noah’s immediate confidence that he wanted Heather, and his willingness to compromise to convince her to stay.

I've read a lot of books written by Isla Chiu; she is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books. This is part of the Older Than Me Series; it is a stand-alone short story. The story is about Heather & the Judge; he catches her in his house after she follows the cat home.
