About this ebook

Previously published in the print anthology Dates From Hell.

Kelley Armstrong returns to the Otherworld with "Chaotic," where a half-demon tabloid journalist's boring date is saved...by a supernatural explosion? She's off to save the day—if only her less-than-stellar date wouldn't tag along! Luckily, the intriguing, infuriating, and just plain sexy werewolf/jewel thief Karl Marsten also appears.

Hope's supernatural radar leads her straight to a museum heist in progress. Cornering the thief seems simple enough—until a dead guard proves someone far deadlier is hunting them both!

A ruthless Cabal sorcerer has sealed the exits, forcing the pair into an alliance. Crawling through dusty air ducts beats making small talk—even if trusting a handsome predator is playing with danger!

  • Forced Proximity: Wedged behind an African savanna diorama, Hope and Karl find their mutual attraction flaring in the tightest corners.
  • Morally Grey Hero: Karl Marsten is a ruthless Pack werewolf and an unrepentant thief who pockets antique museum jewels while casually negotiating his way out of handcuffs.
  • Race Against Time: Facing a fire-flinging guard who turns replica scrolls into deadly torches, Hope has to rely on her chaotic instincts to stay one step ahead of an execution squad.
  • Slow Burn: Despite trading barbs about her blinding dress and his criminal habits, Hope cannot deny the electric pull toward an intriguing rogue who matches her stride for stride.

I was always curious how this story started and I love the romance between Karl and Hope. I was so happy that the beginning was every bit as good as the rest for these two and you can see why they fell for each other so completely.

About the author

When librarians finally granted Kelley Armstrong an adult card, she made straight for the epic fantasy and horror shelves. She spent the rest of her childhood and teen years happily roaming fantastical and terrible worlds, and vowed that someday she'd write a story combining swords, sorcery, and the ravenous undead. That story began with the New York Times bestselling Sea of Shadows and continues with Empire of Night.Armstrong's first works for teens were the New York Times bestselling Darkest Powers and Darkness Rising trilogies. She lives in rural Ontario with her husband, three children, and far too many pets.
